Bougainville Island
Bougainville island is the larger of our two main islands. Bougainville island lies just south of Buka island and has an area of around 9,300 km squared. Bougainville Island is dominated by mountain ranges that run almost the complete length of the island. Like Buka, Bougainville island has a number of attractions and places that shouldn't be missed.
mt. balbi
Rotokas, Central Bougainville
Mt Balbi or Tutue, its local name, is the highest point on the island at 2,715 m. Trek through varying forest types on a steep track. While the strato-volcanic Tutue is classed as active, it has not erupted in historic time. Near the summit are sulphur vents, a stunning turquoise blue lake, and steaming hot springs.

BENUA CAVE
Keriaka, Bougainville Island
The Benua Cave is one of the largest caverns in the world. It consists of a single chamber, 470m along its longest length with a maximum width of 150m and height of 170m. Situated in the remote Keriaka Limestone plateau above the west coast of Bougainville Island, it has an immense 100m sheer wall entrance and stalagmite up to 18m tall. The volume of the sinkhole is a staggering 4.5 million cubic metres!

Lake Luloru is a crater lake situated between Kieta and Buin.

Pokpok Island has beautiful beaches and snorkelling locations. Trips can be organised to surfing sites and visits to nearby idyllic islands including Arovo and Tausina island.
KIETA MEMORIAL park
Kieta, Central Bougainville
The park is located near the Kieta Wharf on the junction of the beach road and the Aropa-Arawa sealed road. The park features a model zero aircraft, a medium tank and naval guns from World War 2.
